On Monday, your Student Council met to discuss a community project. They discussed and agreed to adopt, as ‘fellow classmates’, the children of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.
The first part of our outreach is to send a small collection of comforting books to our new ‘classmates’. Please consider the purchase of a new book suitable for any K – 4 student. The ideal book choice is one that will bring a smile to our friends across the miles. Please consider something with a main character, fiction or non fiction.
Then, with your child, personalize the book (inside the front cover) with a written expression of friendship. Return the books to the front office.
The Richardson Student Council is asking all of our families to be aware of this effort and to consider participating in any way that you are able.
For our friends and supporters outside of our schools, we are seeking your help as well. Wells Fargo has generously donated their time and resource and set up a donor account for us to use in this effort.
Please consider a small cash contribution to this effort. To do so, you may visit ANY Wells Fargo branch and tell them that you have a donation for the Smiles Across The Miles account. It’s just that simple.
Your contribution will go towards the purchase and shipment of books in January 2013 to our new ‘classmates’.
From there, it is our ultimate goal to provide a brand new complete collection of books to the students, wherever they may land.
